Welcome!
We all have our own hobbies or favorite ways to pass time. I enjoy surfing the web and learning new things. Whether it’s social or educational, I love to spend time behind my laptop. When I’m bored, I usually go on websites that relate to me or can teach me new things. I try my best to be updated with the latest trends. Because of my deep interest in dressing up and being “trendy,” this alone explains my love for www.seventeen.com and www.pinterest.com. Both websites work hand in hand with each other and they both compliment each other. I love www.seventeen.com because the website was created with my age group in mind. Many things that are posted on there are things that I can relate to and I also enjoy this website because it’s completely recreational and most of all, it’s free! On the other hand, Pinterest does almost the same exact thing but here, you aren’t confined to a few categories or topics. On Pinterest, the decision is completely up to you and you are offered the opportunity to express yourself more. So, if you enjoy learning new things, keeping up with the latest trends, or communicating with people that share similar interests with you, I highly recommend you visit either one of these websites!

Stay Seventeen forever
In today’s generation, we are beginning to learn that the Internet and media is the center of it all. Everything we do now has a media and Internet background and we tend to rely on it more because we know it's there. Some use the Internet strictly for business while others use it for recreational purposes and then again, some use it for both.
After browsing through my web browser’s history, I realized that I visit the seventeen website quite a lot. I believe that this website builds a community for young teenage girls, because it gives them tips on how to stay ahead of the latest trends and even tips on how to be successful in school. Though it may not further a political cause, it does help young girls become more “socially attractive.” I also think that the main purpose of this website is to open up a site where young, teenage girls can learn to express themselves in creative ways. This website educates and empowers young teenage girls, mainly ages 13-19. This website does so by giving tips and tricks to dress up, style your hair; it also gives simple quizzes on things you may show a specific interest towards. When visiting a webpage, even though it may not be our initial focus, we do care a lot about the makeup and composition of the website. For www.seventeen.com, the logo of the site is the number “17” or Seventeen and it is colored in with hot pink and white. The logo works with the purpose of the site, because it looks fun and girly and the intended audience for the site is young teenage girls. The color package also plays a big role for this for this website, because it communicates with the intended audience. The color package consists of baby blue/teal, baby pink, hot pink and white. This color packages gives us a sense of fun and playful colors and shows that this website is supposed to be recreational and, most importantly, for girls. Other than the makeup and composition of the website, the interactivity and popularity of the website matters a lot. This shows us how successful the website is and if we did or did not reach our intended audience. The authors on this website sound like they are within the age group of 16-21. They are talking to their intended audiences (us) and I know this, because they make it easy for themselves to relate to things that we may face on a daily basis. The language of the site’s author is professional yet understandable. Its easy to understand and it relates to the content and message of the site, because young girls are using this as a recreational site, not an academic one. The various features that are offered on this site include: outfit ideas, quizzes, hairstyles, and celeb gossip. I think that young teenage girls use this site regularly. Overall, I believe that influence matters the most over design and content. I say this because the influence has a lot to do with how popular your website is. If parents learn that your website is leaving a powerful impact on their kid, they wouldn’t mind letting him/her use the website. Personally, I like this website, because it gives me tons of tips on how to spice up my wardrobe and my own personal style. It’s always fun to have a recreational site to rely on other than social networking. I really like that the site is organized into different subsections and I also like how the colors coordinate with each other. I hope that I could incorporate this with my own website. |
Pin this... Pin that... Just like www.seventeen.com, Pinterest is also known for offering a lot of tips and tricks in almost any category you can possibly think of. The purpose of this web space is for people of any age group to come together and form different folders and simply “pin” things that they’re interested in. This website works to educate and empower just about anyone whose interested in learning new things. It does so by uploading photos and sometimes links to videos to different DIY (do it yourself) projects that people can try in the comfort of their homes. The website can be used to inform us about a person, place or set of issues through pins with hash tags.
The website communicates its purposes with more than just words on the site because photos and hash tags matter more to the users. This website is definitely used to build a community within people of similar interests. The website doesn’t further a political/social cause; it just brings people together by mutual interests. The logo for this website is a capital P with a swirl. The logo works with the purpose of the site because the “P” stands for Pinterest. Considering that the website is initially intended for posting photos and then getting other users to repost your photo, there isn’t a need to have a repeating image or a background image because then it’ll look like there's way too much going on. Images that are posted on this website can vary from hobbies, fashion, makeup and so much more! This works with the purpose of the site because users are able to express themselves through different pictures. The main color package of the website itself is red and white. The color package conveys a positive attitude and the red pops and catches your eye at first glance. The color package relates to the purpose of the website because the website is created to express yourself in a fun and creative fashion and the color scheme corresponds evenly with the content! In comparison to www.seventeen.com, I think that the interactivity on Pinterest matters more only because interactivity is what keeps the website alive. There isn’t necessarily one specific author on this site; I believe that whoever joins the Pinterest community contributes to the site as an author would. The language on the site is understandable and easy. The language works with the content and message of the site because it helps other users connect with each other. People do interact a lot with this site and they also link it to their Facebook accounts, so that way, their friends can learn about their deepest interests and creative sides. Pinterest recruits most of its users by promoting and marketing. They also recruit by making the site as easy as possible to use. I think the smartest aspect of this website is linking it with Facebook and since most people already have Facebook, they wouldn’t mind joining because it’s all the same username and password! I like this website because, it shows me different ways to express myself creatively. I also like it because unlike many other websites, I can create my own groups and subfolders and re-pin things that I like. My favorite part about this website is mainly its ease of use. Most people prefer “user friendly” sites and by using Pinterest, they can work easily and quickly. I hope to incorporate user-friendly tabs and content throughout my own personal webpages. |
Goodbye, for now.
In life, we often have to remind ourselves that it’s okay to have fun once in a while. And one of my favorite ways of having fun is by surfing the web. There are so many positive things that we can take away from browsing the Internet. Yes, I must admit that there are some negative things about Internet usage, but once you’re fully educated on Internet safety, there’s nothing to worry about. Now, don’t get me wrong though: going outside and getting fresh air is a must, but it doesn’t hurt to take out some time from your daily routines to use the Internet. With so many new technological advancements, there are no excuses. You would be amazed by the things you can do, see, and learn by just surfing the Internet. Remember, there are neither limits nor boundaries to expanding your education! In my own personal opinion, whether you’re learning about our Country’s history or how to knit your own blanket, the Internet has the ability to make the learning process fun!
