MEET THE TEAM
Meet Sadia!Hello everyone! My name is Sadia Chong and I am currently an undergraduate student studying at John Jay college of Criminal Justice. I consider myself to be a strong advocate in preventing bullying. Throughout my grade school career, I have been a victim of bullying here and there but never to the extreme. And from that moment on, I didn't want anyone to feel the way I did with all the hurt, pain, and worrying. While some may believe that being bullied is “a part of growing up,” I support the complete opposite. What some adults and teachers fail to recognize is that kids can go to such harsh measures just to hurt someone’s feelings and, almost all the time, bullying results in someone getting physically or emotionally hurt. I believe in equality and safety and these are two main essential things of life that bullying can take away. If you or a loved one is a victim of bullying, feel free to email me or speak to a trusted adult about your issue. Or, if you are just a strong advocate in preventing bullying of any sort, join hands with me as we will work and fight together to end bullying once and for all! Always remember, keeping it in isn’t always the best choice.
Sincerely, Sadia Chong |
Meet Jossie!Hey there! My name's Jossieluz Advincula Guevara and I am Political Science major at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Bullying is a very important issue to me, as I would hope it is to everyone else. I was born in Peru and I moved to the USA right before going into my Junior High School years. Throughout my Middle School and High School years, I was almost never bullied. There were times when people would make "jokes" on how much taller I was, or on how my accent was different than everyone else, but it never went "hardcore." However, I was a witness of bullying. I know that bullying is an awful thing to go through, and that is why I go against it. Every time I see a small amount of bullying, whether cyber or physical, I try to always stick up for the victim. Kids are harsh, words hurt, and people fail to realize that. Quite often, I believe, people do not stand up for the victims because they are afraid that the bully will come after them too. Chances are they won't. I believe that it only takes one person to stand up and stop bullying. If you ever need a shoulder to cry on, a person to vent to, or simply someone to stick up for you, I want you to know that I'm always going to be there to support you. One act of kindness can save a life!
Blessings, Jossieluz Advincula Guevara |
Meet Justine!Hey! My name's Justine Martinez and I am a Forensic Psychology major at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. As a victim of bullying, I've always been the type to fight against it and work with others to prevent it.I was born and raised in New York City and have never ventured too far away. I always heard stories about bullying occurring in high school, but luckily, my high school years were simple. My elementary and middle school years were the toughest. After experiencing bullying for myself, and remembering the pain from back then, I realized that bullying is something that's always put on the back burner as a part of growing up: it supposedly allows kids to grow a backbone and survive in the real world. Bullying doesn't always bring out that outcome though. Sometimes it destroys kids that are growing up. "Sticks a Stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me" is a quote that I never agreed with. Everyone should be treated equally and no one should be discriminated against for the way they look, the way they dress, who they like-- there is no reason for any type of bullying. Life is hard and it feels like the end of the world as you're getting bullied, but you're not alone! There is always a way to get help.
Sincerely, Justine Martinez |
